Bonnie Randall

We encourage all parents/caregivers to attend this important and informative meeting. This is a FREE admission event.

Bonnie鈥檚 presentation explores how young people are seeking connection today and encourages parents to reflect on where their children may be finding that sense of belonging. The presentation offers hopeful, practical ideas and small steps families can take to strengthen communication and build trust with their child. It also opens a conversation about the challenges of online life and how parents and youth can work together to create healthier, more meaningful connections.

Bonnie Randall, a national trainer with the Center for Trauma-Informed Practices and a clinical social worker, has worked extensively with school divisions across Canada. Her early career was spent working alongside Kevin Cameron as a Family School Liaison Counselor with Horizon School Division in the years leading up to the Taber School Shooting. Following that, she held an 11-year tenure with Child Protection in West-Central Alberta, carrying an investigation caseload and acting as case manager for high-risk teens. Bonnie moved into a therapeutic role in 2005 for Alberta Health Services Addictions and Mental Health.

HSD Reality Check Event /2026/02/24/hsd-reality-check-event-in-niverville/ Tue, 24 Feb 2026 15:16:48 +0000 /?p=9196 Read More ]]> Financial Literacy Experience

On January 14, Niverville High School was transformed into a hands-on learning hub as Grade 10 students from Grunthal and Niverville, along with Grade 10 and 11 students from Landmark, took part in 91快活林鈥檚 Reality Check event.

Reality Check EventStudents were each assigned an occupation that was representative of opportunities in the Hanover area, with a monthly income based on Job Bank Canada labour market information. Additionally they were each given a slip of paper to determine if they had a spouse, what their spouse鈥檚 occupation and income might be, and even how many children they were raising. With their personalized profile in hand, students visited 17 booths staffed by community organizations, parents, and volunteers to build a workable monthly budget.

From housing and transportation to insurance, groceries, child care, and entertainment, every decision required thoughtful consideration. Students tracked their spending in cheque registers and quickly discovered how lifestyle choices directly affect financial stability. The experience provided a powerful, practical look at the real cost of living and the importance of planning ahead.

This marks the third time Reality Check has been hosted in Niverville and the fourth event overall within the division, with a fifth event planned at SRSS this spring. The continued expansion reflects the strong value students and staff see in this hands-on financial literacy experience.

Feedback from both students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the event鈥檚 impact and relevance.

Reality Check would not be possible without the generous support of community volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering at a future event is encouraged to reach out to kkrause@hsd.ca

It is with anticipation and excitement that we are busy preparing for the Sept. 2019 opening of Niverville Middle School (Gr. 5-8) and. As partners in education, we are reaching out to NCI and NES parents/guardians to gather important feedback that will assist us in our planning process.

To gather feedback we鈥檙e using , an online tool that will provide parents/guardians with an opportunity to share their thoughts as a collective voice. Participants are asked to respond to two open-ended questions, and then consider and assign stars to the ideas shared by others.

The results will assist us in identifying community-shared priorities and questions that are specific to the new schools.听There are two separate conversations, one for each school. Parents/Guardians are welcome to participate in one or both.

Parents/Guardians can come back to the exchange and participate as often as they would like. In fact, we invite you to come back often to interact with new ideas that will be shared by other participants throughout the 10 days that the exchange is open. 听View Details…
